While the United States crosses the 1 million mark, reports reveal approximately 97,000 children have fallen victim to the COVID-19 virus between the 16th of July to the 30th of the same month.
The Elements of the Report
A report published by the Children’s Hospital Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics reveals that the number of children affected by the COVID-19 virus has risen by 40%. The virus has infected Ninety-seven thousand children, and over 86 children have lost their lives.
As major Academic Institutions in the United States intend to resume regular classes, the survey carries significant weightage by revealing the growing impact of COVID-19 on children.
The survey was conducted over numerous states in the U.S., with subjects ranging from infants to 24 years of age. It aims at studying the causes and effects of the virus on children and minors as transmitters of the virus.
The survey findings will prove beneficial in designing and executing appropriate safety guidelines for the efficient functioning of academies. Understanding the distinct nature of transmission in youngsters will help facilitate the safe re-opening of educational institutions.
The Administration’s Action
Government officials have been working meticulously to restructure academic institutions to meet the health advisories and safeguards issued during the Pandemic.
Some associations have developed Health Kits that can be used by the families to collect samples in their home itself. The specimens collected can be sent to a laboratory for further detection of the presence of the virus.
Other measures that the Officials have contrived are- thoroughly disinfecting the School Buses used for kids’ transportation while also supervising the number of children who can travel in the bus and issuing directives that require wearing masks both the staff as well as the children.
Although Governor Andrew Cuomo from New York insists parents enroll their children for sessions that would begin in fall, the decision to re-open schools during the Pandemic faces extensive opposition from the Teaching Faculty and the Parents. Some Schools express the need for additional funds to enforce the necessary protocols.
The re-opening of a school in Georgia resulted in the contamination of nine members- 6 students and three faculty members. It is an example of how vague policies and defiance of precautions can further the virus’s expanse.
Although, conducting classes over a Digital Medium has its drawbacks, it is much safer than resuming an academic session in precarious times, especially considering that the COVID-19 cases seem far from constrained.
