Two esteemed healthcare departments of the United States, namely the Food and Drug Administration and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, have been accused of falling prey to political endeavours under the Trump administration.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) faced a severe backlash following their remarkably contradictory decisions.

The decision seemed to be aligned more towards parties’ political interests than the national interest and social welfare of masses.

Hasty Decisions Made By The Food And Drug Administration

The controversies began flooding in after the FDA commissioner Stephen Hahn’s announcements on the 23rd of August at the White House. Hahn first authorized the use of Convalescent Plasma Therapy for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. Hahn stated that Convalescent Plasma Therapy stimulated the recovery rate by 35%. Scientists noted that Hahn had misinterpreted the research and distorted the representation of the results.

Though Hahn later issued a public apology for his deviation from the actual figures, which amount to approximately 5% recovery rate, medical professionals suspect that the motive behind authorizing Convalescent Plasma Therapy stemmed from the interests of Trump’s political policies.

People react to FDA’s hasty decisions by questioning the FDA’s reliability and a doubtful approach to commodities approved by the FDA in the future.

Centre For Disease Control And Prevention Amends Its Guidelines For Testing COVID-19 Patients

While cases continue to rise in several regions of the United States, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention revised its guidelines regarding the testing of COVID-19. The renewed policy states that it is not mandatory to test Asymptomatic patients exposed to COVID-19.

The decision clashes with the protocols being followed at local and state levels. CDC faced significant criticism for excluding the requirements of State and Local authorities while ruling out its decision. A disparity at federal, state, and local levels induces chaos.

Experts suggest that Trump’s political interests have heavily influenced both the FDA and the CDC’s continuous revision of decisions and guidelines.

FDA and CDC are renowned medical organizations that are expected to work free from any political influence.

COVID-19 cases continue swelling in the United States. Arizona reached a new milestone of nearly 5000 deaths due to COVID-19, while approximately 452 students test positive for Coronavirus. The absence of a reliable source during such uncertain times evokes apprehension amongst people, and the credibility of the FDA and CDC seems to be flailing.
