Scientific and Practical Understanding yoga

As the world is pacing, the western studies are researching more and trying to bring out on the table some concrete clues and facts that evidently show how yoga helps and heals the aches of the body and mind. Once known and understood to these facts, there resides no reason for a person to not just hop onto his mat and practice yoga.

There are a lot of benefits that yoga provides, starting from it increasing the flexibility of the body. If you are a practitioner or a viewer , you must have realized that the first time you perform yoga, you are not able to touch your feet while keeping your knees up straight but after a few sessions, you start reaching closer to your toe tips and finally are able to touch it. This happens because once you start practising it, your body starts to loosen up and the aches and pulls that you got on the initial days of doing it also automatically subside. In addition to that, it helps you build a strong body, while going to the gym and lifting weights is also a good idea but not at the cost of the flexibility of the body. Furthermore, it improves the basic posture of the body. A human head is almost like a big rolling head, when kept in the right position erect to the spine, it would be very easier for your neck and back to support the head but as soon as you move your head to real few inches, you might end up straining your need which would surely end up giving a shrill of pain directly down the spine to the tailbone and can also turn to be a type of degenerative spinal arthritis in the later years of life.

While you might not be habituated to actually getting all your muscles and joints to use or work, Yoga makes these muscles and joints get into proper motion by squeezing and soaking areas of cartilage. The joint cartilage in the body is like a sponge that does not receive the fresh nutrients into the body until and unless the previous fluid is squeezed out and the new one is soaked in. If a proper sustenance therapy is not given to the cartilages, they tend to wear out with the course of time and make the bones weak.

Yoga also increases the circulation of blood in the body. The relaxation exercises learnt in yoga, helps to provide more oxygen to the blood cells and hence improve its functionality or circulation throughout the system. It also helps to improve the haemoglobin and Red blood cell count of the body that provides blood to the tissues and by thinning the blood so that the platelets are less sticky which leads to decreased causes of heart strokes since blood clots are usually a reason for these killers. While contracting and expanding the muscles, moving the organs a bit and going in and coming out of the yoga pose, you tend to increase the drainage of the lymphs which helps the lymphatic system to fight against the infections, destroy the cancer cells and also dispose of the waste produced by the functioning of cells.

Yoga also regulates your adrenal glands, these glands produce cortisol in the body during the time of crisis which helps to boost the immune system for the time being but if the crisis is over and the cortisol levels in the body are still high, they can compromise on the immune system in the long run. Additionally, excessive levels of cortisol in the body has been linked to the causes of hypertension, depression, anomalic blood pressures and also as insulin resisters. In the layman language, high cortisol levels are explained by the researchers as “food-seeking behaviour” which in turns increases the weight of the body.

Key to Happiness

According to proven researches, Yoga leads to a significant increase in the serotonin levels and decreases the levels of monoamine oxidase. It indeed has been correlated to greater levels of happiness and contentment and better functioning of the body and immune system. In easier words, a more dramatic left side activation is found in the disciplined and dedicated practitioners of art.
